The most popular properties on Rightmove in 2016

From a Shropshire cave to Harry Potter’s house – these are the homes we’ve been obsessively looking at this year.

Rightmove, the largest property website in Britain, has revealed the top 10 most-viewed homes on its site in 2016.

We’ve been window shopping for Harry Potter’s three-bedroom Bracknell home as well as a luxury townhouse in Belgravia, according to the site.

Here’s the full rundown of the homes that caught our attention this year.

10. Holland Park, London - £24 million

This seven-bedroom, 9,000 sq ft contemporary home features a basement pool, gym and indoor cinema and was first listed in January 2016.

The gardens and terraces have been designed by RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medalist Kate Gould, the driveway has space for two or three cars and there are lifts to all floors.

The Addison Road address is one of Holland Park’s most prestigious streets, sutuated close to shops, restaurants and top schools.

9. Bungay, Suffolk - £295,000

This six-bedroom fixer-upper is a Grade II-listed gatehouse that dates back to at least 1613 and was home to novelist Sir Henry Rider Haggard.

The property is arranged over three storeys and comes with 1.66 acres of land as well as some interesting original architectural features including wooden mullioned windows, large fireplaces, curved stairways and a ‘coffin hole’.

It was on the market for £295,000 but has (unsurprisingly) been snapped up.

8. Notting Hill, London - price on application

Traditional is fused with contemporary in this Grade II-listed ‘dream’ Notting Hill home. It comes with eight bedrooms, nine bathrooms, four reception rooms and a sub-basement car park (served by a car lift).

But the centre piece, according to the agents, is a lavish spa with an oval-shaped massage area and a large gym.

Wondering if you can afford it? You’ll need to enquire about the price as the owners are cagey on the price tag of this prestigious Pembridge Square mansion.

7. Ampthill, Bedford - £275,000

This ‘rustic’ three-bed terrace house is situated in one of Bedford’s most desirable commuter locations, with London just a 45-minute ride from the local train station.

With an affordable price tag, character features like a wood burner and a generous garden the property was hugely popular on Rightmove this year.

6. Bridgnorth, Shropshire - £199,000

This humble two-bed cottage generated huge interest this year as it is one of the few remaining cave houses in Britain.

The property features a 650 sq ft cave at the back complete with gothic archways and vaulted pillars.

It was once home to local artist Anthony Dracup and previous owners of the cottage have kept the unique character features and integral art work alive.

5. Windlesham, Surrey - £17.95 million

This new-build mansion comes with eight bedrooms, nine bathrooms and five reception rooms as well as a 14-seat cinema, spa with a sauna, gym, indoor pool and a wine cellar.

However, despite the agents describing it as ‘one of the finest new mansions in the Ascot area’,  the impressive property has failed to find a buyer since first listing in October 2014.

It was on the market for £24 million, but it now has a much reduced price tag of £17.95 million – bargain!

4. Bracknell, Berkshire - £450,000

This property is better known as 4 Privet Drive – home to the Dursleys in the Harry Potter films.

The three-bedroom property famously features a cupboard under the stairs, where Harry Potter is forced to sleep by his aunt and uncle.

It came onto the market in September, but has since been removed from sale.

3. Thorne Island, Wales - £550,000

This island fortress off the Pembrokeshire coast has sparked huge interest in the month that it has been listed on Rightmove.

Built to defend Milford Haven harbor with space for 100 men, it has 10 bedrooms and three bedrooms but is in need of complete renovation to be habitable.

This impressive home belongs to ex-footballer Ashley Ward and wife Dawn, star of the reality TV show Real Housewives of Cheshire.

Set in 12 acres it features six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, hair and nail salon, games room, cinema and offices with separate staff accommodation on site too.

However, despite the huge interest online the mansion has been on the market since October 2013.

It features chandeliers, retractable glass ceilings, roof terrace, a basement swimming pool and a passenger elevator.
