Bank branch closures: 100 more Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches to shut

Updated on 06 April 2017 | 1 Comment

Lloyds Banking Group has announced that it will close another 100 of its branches in the coming year. Is your local affected?

The Lloyds Banking Group – which includes Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and Halifax – is shutting 100 more banks.

Closures will affect 54 Lloyds bank branches, 22 Halifax branches and 24 Bank of Scotland branches. The group has more than 30 million customers across the UK.

This follows plans to convert some Lloyds branches into Apple Store-style ‘microbranches’ on 4 April, with some of the counters boarded up. Last year the group said that it was going to shut 400 of its branches across the UK, axing 9,000 jobs.

A Lloyds spokesman said the 100 branches will close between July and October 2017. It’ll start with branches in South Wales, Devon and Gloucestershire in a few weeks’ time.

The bank claims the closures will be offset by the addition of nine new mobile branches – effectively banks on wheels – across the Lloyds and Bank of Scotland networks by the end of the year.
