Get the most out of your Supermarket Loyalty Points

If you're a Tesco or Sainsbury's shopper you're probably used to collecting Clubcard or Nectar points on your weekly shop. This week, MySupermarket launched a partnership with ipoints.co.uk so you now earn ipoints on top of your regular loyalty points. By using mySupermarket for your Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury's or Ocado shopping, you will earn 2 ipoints for every £1 spent.

Collecting ipoints on your groceries will be a useful addition to your weekly loyalty points. At Sainsbury's, you earn 2 Nectar points for every £1 spent and 500 points entitle you to £2.50 off your shopping. With every point worth half a penny, the average £80 shop will earn you 160 points, reducing your bill by 80p.

At Tesco, you earn one Clubcard point for every £1 spent, and 100 points is worth £1 off your shopping. This means that for your £80 trolley, you'll earn 80 points - also 80p off.

Both Nectar and Clubcard work out as 1% off your supermarket shopping which isn't a huge amount but can add up after time. You can also use your points to buy goods and services at certain select businesses.

ASDA on the other hand don't have a loyalty programme because it claims to invest the money in maintaining lower prices.

This claim is backed up by the mySupermarket Index that monitors the changing price of 2,500 products sold in all four online supermarkets. The August results confirmed that ASDA is still the cheapest of the online supermarkets - each of the products monitored was on average several pence cheaper in ASDA than in both Tesco and Sainsbury's.
