Whether you favour a classic breakfast blend or love to try fruity and herbal teas, these are the best British teas to buy now.

As a nation of tea drinkers, we’re serious about our daily brew. Everyone has their favourite brand, from PG Tips to Twinings, but there are many great British teas out there that deserve to be tried and appreciated. Here are seven of the best and most exciting British teas to try now.

1. teapigs peppermint tea

Why we love it? Peppermint tea is refreshing and can help digestion, but poor-quality tea bags can often lack flavour. This peppermint leaf tea is slow-dried after picking so it retains its fresh flavour. It’s clean and crisp on the palate so it’s no surprise it has received a Great Taste Awards. Another bonus: the tea bags are biodegradable and you can also buy loose leaves.

Where can I buy it? Available online or from most large grocery stores for £3.99 per 15 bags.

2. Roqberry teas

Why we love it? If you’re after some extraordinary flavour combinations, award-winning Roqberry teas are for you. We're fans of the sweet notes of Raspberry Fondant and the fruitiness of Bloomin' Buds herbal blend, but for something even more adventurous, the Sushi & Spice green tea blend is certainly intriguing. Roqberry’s inventive infusions are made from quality single source varieties like black, oolong, green and rooibos and are all packed in biodegradable, non-toxic plant-based tea bags.

Where can I buy it? Available online from £4.99 per 12 bags.

Why we love it? Brew Tea Company’s take on a classic is a light and citrussy affair. The Ceylon leaves are mixed with bergamot oil, orange peel and calendula petals for a delicate, delicious brew. Best enjoyed black with lemon or with a dash of milk, the tea is also ethically sourced and both the boxes and the tea bags are completely plastic-free and are recyclable and biodegradable respectively.

Where can I buy it? Available online or Waitrose, Ocado and other retailers from £4.59 per 15 tea bags.

4. Good & Proper Tea Brockley Breakfast

Why we love it? Thanks to its full-bodied, robust flavour, Brockley Breakfast is a proper breakfast tea. Named after Good & Proper Tea’s south London home, it’s a blend of Assam, Kenyan and Sri Lankan black teas with Darjeeling’s aromatic notes. Best served with a dash of milk, this award-winning tea comes in compostable tea bags and is available as loose leaves too.

Where can I buy it? Available online for £5 per 15 tea bags.

5. Storm Tea organic Assam tea

Why we love it? Rich and full-bodied, this organic Assam tea from Storm Tea makes a proper cuppa. Hand-picked on the Bherjan Estate in Assam in northeast India, the tea is best known for its malty flavour – a result of Assam's extreme humidity and high temperatures during the monsoon season. A wonderful gift for a tea lover or a special treat to yourself, it's best enjoyed as a mid-morning pick-me-up.

Where can I buy it? Available online and Ocado from £9.95 per 100g loose leaves.

Why we love it? A much-loved tea and coffee brand, Whittard always offers quality and it's almost impossible to pick just one tea. With an excellent offering of black, green, white, oolong and herbal teas, you won't go wrong with picking any of its loose-leaf teas or tea bags. Whittard's jasmine green tea, harvested in southern China, is richly fragranced yet light and is at its best when enjoyed as an after-dinner palate cleanser.

Where can I buy it? Available from Whittard stores and online from £8 per 100g loose tea.

Why we love it? Served in Bettys tea rooms, this traditional rich blend combines Kenyan, Rwandan and Assam teas into a rich, fragrant brew with a tempting golden colour. The perfect drink to serve with cakes and pastries (especially if they're from Bettys), it's a proper Yorkshire cuppa that's full of flavour and body.

Where can I buy it? Available online from £5 per 80 tea bags.
