Sainsbury’s Dual Offer Credit Card: clear debt while earning Nectar points
Top new purchase offer also comes with a Nectar points bonus. Can it be beaten?
Sainsbury’s is offering a top new purchase credit card that also lets you earn bonus Nectar points.
The Sainsbury’s Bank Dual Offer Credit Card comes with a 0% interest window of 28 months on new purchases, making it one of the joint longest deals on the market.
Throw in the fact you can earn an extra 7,500 Nectar points (equivalent to £37.50) in the first two months and this is immediately one of the most compelling offers available to borrowers right now.
What you need to know about the card
There’s no annual fee, but it does come with a 20.95% typical APR, so as with all 0% cards it’s important you clear your debt in full before the 0% purchase window expires or shift it to a 0% balance transfer card as soon as possible.
Like most Sainsbury’s cards, you’ll earn Nectar points when you spend on the card: two for every £1 spent on Sainsbury's shopping or fuel and one point per £5 spent everywhere else.
However, it also comes with a bonus Nectar offer worth up to 7,500 points.
Each time you spend £35 or more on Sainsbury's shopping in the first two months you'll get 750 points (up to a maximum of 10 times).
Clearly, the best way rack up these extra points is to do your weekly shop or fill up your car at a Sainsbury’s forecourt.
Any catches to watch out for?
As with most best buy cards, you’re only likely to qualify for the Sainsbury’s offer if you have an excellent credit rating.
To avoid damaging your rating with an unsuccessful application, it’s a good idea to use an eligibility checker (we have one here) before applying.
It’s also worth noting that not everyone will get the headline 28 months interest-free offer.
Instead, the lender says it may offer reduced windows of 25 or 22 months “depending on your individual circumstances”.
As a final point, the card comes with an equal balance transfer window of 28 months (hence the words 'dual offer' in the card's name).
This does make it one of the most attractive combined 0% balance transfer and new purchase cards on the market.
However, if you're mainly looking for a balance transfer deal then this is far from the most competitive offer.
Elsewhere, you can get up to 32 months' interest-free for a smaller fee (link to our best buy tables), or borrow completely fee-free for 27 months with this Santander Everyday card.
Verdict
The Sainsbury’s Dual Offer Credit Card is one of the longest offers on the market.
The Nectar Points boost is a nice addition, but it only really works if you’re a Sainsbury’s shopper or there’s a forecourt nearby you can fill up at.
If you have an excellent credit score, this card will be hard to beat if you have upcoming spend that you can’t cover with your savings. You can apply for the card here, or you can compare other new purchase offers here.
