BT prices to rise again this weekend

BT's phone, broadband and digital TV prices will increase from this Saturday.

BT will increase its prices for broadband, landline and digital TV customers and scrap its discount for paperless billing this weekend.

From Saturday 3 December, monthly line rental will increase by 70p a month from £13.90 to £14.60 if you pay by Direct Debit. If you don’t pay by Direct Debit, the Payment Processing Fee will increase by 9p a month to £1.89.

If you don’t have a calling plan, UK landline call rates will increase from 7.6p to 7.95p a minute for daytime calls and from 1p to 1.05p a minute in the evenings. The set-up fee, which is the one-off fee you pay for making a call (if you don’t have a calling plan), will increase from 12.5p to 13.1p a call.

If you have an Unlimited Anytime Plan, which allows you to make unlimited calls to UK landlines and 0845 and 0870 numbers 24/7, it will go up by 20p a month to £4.90. If you have the Unlimited Anytime Plan including mobile calls, you’ll be paying 30p a month more. Evening & Weekend Plans will go up by 15p a month to £3.15.

Broadband price increases

Broadband-only customers will pay between 80p and £1.20 extra a month. However, if you have Broadband Option 1 and an Unlimited Weekend Plan for phone calls, you’ll pay 70p more.

BT Vision customers who have either or both Sky Sports 1 and 2 as stand-alone add-ons will also be paying more. If you have one of the channels, you’ll pay £12.90 a month. If you have both, it will now cost £18.20 a month. These changes don’t apply to people on 24-month Sky Sports special offers.

The paperless billing discount was worth £1.25 a month.

This is the second round of price rises BT has implemented this year following increases to call charges and line rental back in April. However, it has now pledged that line rental, calls to UK landlines and the Unlimited Anytime Plan won’t increase again until 2013.
