As Christmas fast approaches, we look at the cheapest supermarket to pick up your fresh or frozen turkey for the big day.

There have been widespread warnings about a shortage of turkeys and price rises this year due to the bird flu outbreak.

With inflation hitting 11.1% and families avoiding turning on the heating due to soaring energy bills, many will be keen to cut costs where possible.

One way to cut down on the cost of Christmas dinner is to shop around for a cheap turkey.

We’ve found the cheapest fresh and frozen turkey from each major supermarket, which is based on the cost per kilogram.

Please note that Lidl is yet to release details of its fresh turkeys at the time of writing, so we are unable to include them in our fresh turkey roundup.

Which supermarket offers the cheapest frozen turkey?

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that deep discounters Aldi and Lidl both offer the cheapest frozen turkey.

Both offer the same size turkey (5.4kg-7.2kg), which is ideal for 11-15 people. As the weight and price are the same, it’s £2.78 per kg for either turkey.

The next cheapest place to pick up a turkey (on a per kg basis) is Sainsbury’s, followed by Iceland but both of these turkeys can feed a lot of people, so aren’t for everyone.

Waitrose is the most expensive place to pick up a frozen turkey with the cheapest on offer costing £5.27 per kg (£29).
