You can now get free broadband for a year with Tesco but how does the deal stack up when compared to the rest of the market?
Tesco has launched a new £30 voucher deal for all customers signing up to its broadband and phone package.
The offer includes free evening and weekend calls to both UK landlines and 0845 and 0870 numbers as well as an unlimited download limit.
But it's only available for a limited time so if you want to sign up you’ll need to do it before 2nd December.
The deal
Tesco’s broadband deal costs £2.50 for 12 months so to get the £30 voucher – and effectively a free year of broadband – you need to enter the code “GIFTCARD-D” when applying through BroadbandChoices.
This includes free connection and a free wireless router, but you need to factor in the line rental fee of £13.75 a month. If you include the £30 discount this brings the total for the first year to £165.
After the 12 months are up, the cost will go up to £6.50 per month, so at this point it might be worth switching to another provider to make sure you’re still getting a good deal.
How does it compare?
Within the phone and broadband market providers are continually fighting for new customers, which is good news as there are a lot of offers available.
[SPOTLIGHT]Plusnet, for example, has slashed the price of its broadband and phone package so it now costs just £3.24 a month. After the first year this will go up to £6.49 a month.
This package includes 10GB broadband - so not as much as the Tesco deal - free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines and 0845 and 0870 numbers along with a free wireless router.
Again you also need to factor in line rental at £13.99 so this works out at £17.23 a month or £206.76 for a year. If you sign up through BroadbandChoices you’ll also get £25 cashback, and when you add on the £4.99 delivery cost this brings the total to £186.75.
Everything Everywhere (EE) also has a tempting deal when looking at price alone, as for broadband and off-peak calls it costs £5 a month plus line rental of £14. This works out at £198 for the first year (when you include the £30 credit for signing up), but this price is just for customers on EE, Orange or T-Mobile. Everyone else will have to pay £288 in the first year.
