The Government is enhancing a travel scheme in a bid to help people find work.
A travelcard offered to the unemployed is to be improved to offer cardholders free bus travel throughout January.
The JobCentre Plus Travel Discount Card already offers half-price journeys, but is being revamped to help people trying to find a job.
The card is available to those who have been without a job for between three months and a year, and who are claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance, Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance or Income Support.
Around 800,000 people are currently eligible.
The card will cover over 70% of bus routes in England, Scotland and Wales, with all the networks below signing up to take part:
- Arriva
- Blackpool Transport
- Cardiff Bus
- First
- Go-Ahead
- Kinchbus
