High street retailers want to 'level the playing field' by increasing the tax paid by online retailers.
The Treasury is being lobbied by a number of retailers to increase the tax paid by online retailers.
High street retailers believe this would level the playing field by stripping away some of the advantage online retailers have. After all, online retailers do not have to pay things like rent and rates for physical stores.
A working group is being set up by the British Retail Consortium to explore the issue.
The problem is that by increasing the tax online retailers pay, normal shoppers like you and me will most likely end up having to pay more for our goods. Is this a price worth paying in order to help the high street? Cast your vote in our poll below and let us know your thoughts in the Comments section.
