Whether it's decorations, spooky treats or ghoulish costumes you’re after, we’ve found some of the best Halloween bargains.

The spookiest day in the calendar is now the third largest retail season after Christmas and Easter, and analysts expect that shoppers will spend nearly £300 million on Halloween this year alone.

So whether you plan to dress up, throw a party or just want to keep trick-or-treaters at bay here’s where to get all your Halloween essentials on the cheap.

Themed food

There are lots of Halloween-themed treats about in the shops right now.

£1 Pumpkins

You can have hours of fun carving creepy faces into a pumpkin. Tesco and Morrisons are selling them for just £1! Don’t forget to check out Lovefood for ideas on how to cook up the pumpkin leftovers.

Frightening chocolates

You can get a pack of milk chocolate eerie eyeballs at Waitrose for £1.25 or get two for £2.

Elsewhere Cadbury has gone to town on its eerie creations. You can get a Cadbury Crunchy Spider or a Cadbury Screme Egg with green goo in its centre from Asda for 50p each. And at Tesco you can get a bag of Cadbury Dead Heads for £2.

Toffee apples

These sticky treats are a Halloween staple and can be found for just 59p each at Morrisons, or you can get two for £1.

Baked treats

If you like to deliver your scares baked then try Morrisons for their Spooky Skull Biscuits available for £1.55.

Asda’s bakery is overflowing with Halloween-themed treats like these Gruesome Gooballs made out of marshmallow and this pack of Bat-shaped Shortbread, both for just a quid.

Spooky sweets

You will need to stock up on Halloween sweets to keep trick-or-treaters at bay. Luckily you can stock up on Haribo Spooky Ghosts for just 60p at Sainsbury’s.

Costumes

[SPOTLIGHT]Trick or treat cauldron

In order to collect the maximum number of treats you need a vessel that you can carry around. You can get a Trick or Treat Cauldron for just £1 from Poundland.

Kids costumes for £6

Fancy dress is a big part of the fun for kids at Halloween. Make sure your kids look as terrifying as possible on the cheap with costumes available from B&M Stores starting from just £5.99. My personal favourite is this Zombie creation.

Adults can dress up too

Let’s be honest some adults love dressing up as much as kids. You can join in the fun with the costumes from Aldi. I like this Skeleton Dress and it’s a steal at just £6.99.

If you have a bit more money to burn Matalan have a few creations starting from £15 like this Werewolf number.

Meanwhile, All Fancy Dress has a great sale on with costumes as cheap as £9. And at Argos you can save a third on costumes with prices starting from £7.99.

£1 costume accessories

Most Halloween costumes need a tweak to turn up the scary. You can find a heap of £1 costume accessories at Poundland to help you along the way. This fake blood for example could liven up any outfit!

Brave a morphsuit

If you don’t want to faff with accessorising your outfit you could try a morphsuit. If you’ve got the figure for one Asda has a range available from £25. The skin tight, head-to-toe number is available as a Mummy and even a scary pumpkin.

Party decorations

There’s plenty of cheap ways to transform your home for a Halloween party.

B&M stores

B&M Stores has lots of affordable decorations.

There’s this 10-pack of Novelty Skull PVC Lights for £2.49, this 12-pack of Halloween Balloons for just 89p and this Large Green Spider Bowl for 89p.

Decorations for free!

At Spoonful you can print free decorations and masks to wear and put up around the house. Just print on card rather than paper for sturdy creations.

For the serious

Very has more than your usual novelty decorations. This Dripping Blood Door Sign sends a strong message and costs just £3.  While these two Zombie Window Stickers for £5 are pretty lifelike.

Decorations for £1

Again Poundland is great for cheap party decorations to kit out your home. You can get all the paper plates, napkins and cups you need for just £1 each.

Terrifying trips

If you dare you could try one of these affordable but terrifying trips.

Ghost stories by the fire

Enjoy the chills of Cumbrian ghost stories at poet William Wordsworth’s childhood home. Settle by the fire at Wordsworth House and hear tales about dancing skulls, ghosts only dogs could see and a special chair.  A family can get in for £15.90.

Fright Night

Thorpe Park is holding its annual Fright Night, where you get to go on the rides in the dark as the park stays open until 10pm. This year the theme park has teamed up with Lionsgate to bring scary movies like The Blair Witch Project to life. Tickets are less than £25 per adult if you book ahead online before 21st October.

Live action horror maze

For a truly scary experience you could try the Pitch Black Haunted House at the Royal Victoria Hall in Kent. Each group is given one glowstick to navigate the total darkness where monsters and mayhem await. Tickets start from £7.

Scarefest

Thorpe Park isn’t the only theme park to want to shake up its customers over Halloween. Alton Towers has Scarefest where the park stays open late and features attractions such as the Zombies! Scare Zone, The Sanctury maze and the Terror of the Towers. If you book online you can save 25%.

Dungeons

If you’re anywhere near the York, London or Edinburgh Dungeons it's the perfect setting for a fright. With live actors and special effects as you travel through it’s a show you won’t forget in a hurry! Prices vary depending on what day you pick check out the websites for more details.

Entertainment

There’s nothing better than watching a scary movie or two over Halloween.

Scary films for kids

On Amazon you can get some child-friendly movies for under £3. The Witches DVD, for example, is available for just £2.75.

Movies to make adults jump

Play has got 100 of the scariest films as voted by users via Facebook on offer. At number one is The Shining,available from £3.85.

£1 movies

Poundland also has a selection of horror DVDs for £1. You can get the likes of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, A Clockwork Orange and Amityville 2.
