In the latest round of supermarket fuel price cuts, Asda and Tesco are the first to announce reductions. Will Sainsbury's and Morrisons follow?

Motorists will get a boost from tomorrow as Asda and Tesco have pledged to cut fuel prices.

Asda issues challenge

Asda was the first to announce it would be cutting the cost of petrol and diesel by up to 2 pence per litre at all 229 of its forecourts.

The supermarket will be enforcing a nationwide cap on the price of fuel, meaning drivers will pay no more than 126.7 pence per litre for petrol and 133.7 pence per litre for diesel.

The latest reduction means diesel will be at its lowest price with the retailer since July 2012.

Andy Peake, Asda’s Petrol Trading Director said: "We've quickly passed on the latest reductions in costs which is great news for motorists, particularly with household budgets so stretched after Christmas".

Tesco first to respond

Tesco quickly followed Asda and matched its pledge to cut fuel prices by up to 2 pence per litre.

[SPOTLIGHT]The reduction will apply across all 498 of its forecourts and customers can earn Clubcard points when they fill up.
