Don't think you can afford a holiday this year? These four bargain breaks might help change your mind.
You're desperate to get away this Easter - but money's tight and camping's really not your thing. Sound familiar?
Don't despair. Here are four ways you could bag yourself a springtime break - for under £100 per person!
Hunt down a deal with HotelConnect
The HotelConnect website has a host of deals and discounts on hotels in the UK and abroad. Check out the special offers section, which has dozens of deals at up to 50% off.
Here's an example of an affordable city break in Poland: At the time of writing you could get a three-night stay in a two-star Krakow hotel, during March, for £38 per person.* And that still leaves you over £60 to spend on flights before you hit the £100 limit.
If you're looking for an even cheaper deal, be sitting at your computer at 10am on Thursday (26th February). That's when HotelConnect will release hundreds of hotel rooms in Prague for just £1 a night.
There will be a selection of two to four star hotels, for travel in March and April. Fingers on those keyboards!
Landmark getaways
I'm a big fan of The Landmark Trust. This building preservation charity rescues and restores historic and architecturally unusual buildings.
There are 186 Landmarks throughout Britain and the Channel Islands, four in Italy and four in the US.
When each building has been fully restored, the Landmark Trust lets it out as a short-term holiday home for the likes of you and me. Properties include awe-inspiring castles, elegant townhouses and romantic towers with views over the ocean.
If you fill your chosen property to capacity, you could end up paying well under £100 per person for a long weekend break during the winter months.
And there are some good deals to be had in spring, too. For example, the gorgeous Silverton Park Stables in Devon sleeps up to 14 people. It can be hired for three nights in early April for £1412 - which works out just a smidge over budget at £100.80 per person.
Try to avoid Easter week itself though, as Landmark prices tend to shoot up during this period.
National Trust working holidays
If £100 is more than you can afford at the moment, think about getting involved in a National Trust Working Holiday.
The Trust runs hundreds of these every year through the UK, and you can choose from a huge range of conservation activities.
These include fairly energetic outdoor pursuits (like hedge planting or goat herding) to more sedate indoor occupations, like working with collections of photographs, costumes and archives.
You're led by trained volunteers and staff, and groups are usually made up of up to a dozen volunteers. Ages vary depending on which holiday it is, but a lower age limit of 18 usually applies, so these breaks aren't suitable for families with young children.
At the time of writing, there were plenty of April holidays still available. You can find the month - and type of holiday - that suits you using this search tool.
Working Holidays start at around £60 a week per person, which includes food and hostel-style accommodation. You can go for a short break - lasting two or three days - from just £45.
Top Secret deals from Lastminute.com
Lastminute.com used to be the first word in budget travel. However, in recent years many other bargain websites have popped up and are threatening to take its crown.
That said, if you like surprises, you could still bag a good Lastminute deal. Its Top Secret hotel deals are just that. Essentially, you won't know which hotel you're staying in until you've paid your money. So yes, there could be bad surprises as well as good ones!
On the upside, you'll be getting a much-reduced rate. And you will be given plenty of clues, including the hotel's general location (eg 'central Berlin'), its star rating and a description of the facilities.
For example, I found a four star hotel room, close to Madrid city centre, that you could book for two nights for £126. That works out at £63 per person, leaving you just under £40 each to spend on flights (a tad optimistic, I admit!).
It's also worth trying Hotwire.com - read How To Get A Bargain Hotel Room for more info.
Wherever you end up going, it's a good idea to do a bit of research before you book. On the Trip Advisor website, you can read reviews of hotels, restaurants and holiday destinations all over the world - written by fellow travelers.
Happy holidaying!
