Best Black Friday 2015 sales, deals, discounts, freebies

Updated on 27 November 2015 | 4 Comments

We round up which retailers will be offering the best sales, deals and discounts for Black Friday 2015.

Black Friday is an American tradition, where retailers have a big sale the day after Thanksgiving to kick off the Christmas spending season. The moniker Black Friday was originally coined in reference to the heavy traffic the day after Thanksgiving, though it’s also been said to refer to the fact that retailers tended to operate at a loss until November, with the big sales in the run up to Christmas pushing them 'back into the black’.

So who is taking part today and what are they offering?

Amazon

Amazon is essentially responsible for bringing the Black Friday concept to the UK, and actually runs a full week of deals. It operates ‘lightning deals’ which are basically sales on specific items that are only available for a very short time. It's sure to be one of the big players again in 2015 and is promising reductions on 7,000 items.

The top deals for Black Friday include:

Asda

Asda has announced that it won't be taking part in this year's Black Friday. Interestingly, it says it's taken its decision "due to shopper fatigue setting in around flash sales on big-ticket, non-essential items at Christmas". This is despite Asda and parent company Wal-Mart being arguably one of the biggest cheerleaders for bringing Black Friday to the UK.

Instead, Asda says it will be giving shoppers £26 million of "sustained savings" across November and December.

How to make the most of Black Friday

If you’re planning on getting involved in the Black Friday shopping chaos online or in-store here are some tips to make the most of the day.

Make a list - To make sure you avoid spending money on things you don’t need and stay focused make a list of what you would like to find deals on.

Set a budget - It’s hard not to get carried away during the sales, so try and set yourself a budget on what you are willing to spend and stick to it.

Create a game plan - Once you have a list of items and a budget it will be easy to make a plan on which stores and/or sites you should visit to try and find a deal.

Start early - Don’t miss out on great deals. Many stores are opening early and many online deals will be available after midnight. So stay up or wake up earlier to take advantage of the best offers before they disappear.

Earn cashback - If you’re shopping online, you should ALWAYS check to see if you can get a little back on your spending with a cashback website. The big two are Quidco and TopCashback. Just search for the retailer on the cashback website, follow their tracked link over to the retailer and then you will get a percentage of your purchase back in cashback. It’s free money! Use a cashback credit card to pay and you'll earn money as you spend. Both sites will have their own special Black Friday deals too.

Use a credit card - It’s a good idea to use a credit card to pay for shopping over £100 to get extra protection. Under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, providers are jointly liable with suppliers if anything goes wrong.

Earn money back on your spending: compare cashback credit cards
