Many expect 2015 to be financially difficult.
A quarter of Brits will cut the amount they spend in 2015 because they think things will be economically tougher than this year, according to research by the Money Advice Service.
Around 20% expect to find it harder to get by next year, while just 10% think things will get a little easier.
Why things will get harder
Those who believe 2015 will be even harder picked out a number of contributing factors, but three big ones emerged. More than half (54%) pointed the finger at inflation, even though the Consumer Prices Index measurement has dropped to just 1%, the lowest level in 12 years. However, even small inflation can hurt as a result of the second factor picked out by 36% of the pessimists - no expected pay rise.
[SPOTLIGHT]And another 17% said they actually expect their pay to drop next year.
Getting proactive
While many expect money to be a little tighter, the good news is that they are already working out exactly how to cut their spending.
The MAS survey found almost half (47%) are buying cheaper alternatives to their usual everyday products, while 41% are aiming to spend less on socialising. Just over a quarter will spend less on presents next year, while 25% will take a packed lunch to work to minimise day-to-day spending.
