Get a 'free' MOT

Updated on 29 January 2015 | 2 Comments

Halfords deal only available for 24 hours.

Motorists can get a free MOT, worth £29.95, with Halfords Autocentres if they book on Friday 30th January.

The garage will waive the cost of the vehicle health check providing drivers book either a Full (£149) or Major (£215) service at the same time.

The offer applies to appointments made online at halfordsautocentres.com between 00:01 and 23:59 on 30th January. To take advantage you’ll need to enter the promotional code FREE-MOT at the checkout.

Motors eligible for the offer include class 4 vehicles like cars and caravans, but class 7 vehicles (like vans) are excluded.

Is this really a good deal?

The MOT isn't free in the strictest sense, as it's reliant on you also booking in for a service. So it could be a money saver if your motor needed a service anyway. Otherwise, it's one to skip.

Can I cut the cost of my MOT?

[SPOTLIGHT]The cost of an MOT can vary, though the Government has capped the maximum fee at £54.85 for cars and £29.65 for motorbikes.

But there are plenty of things you can do to save money, from doing some basic checks yourself before the test (in order to reduce the chances of failing, and subsequent retests) to checking whether your local council offers cheaper MOTs.
