Power to Switch campaign led to more than 100,000 homes to switch energy supplier, with big savings as a result.
Around 130,000 households have switched energy supplier following the launch of the Government’s Power to Switch campaign last month, saving an average of £312 on dual fuel deals.
The Department of Energy & Climate Change revealed that more than £38 million has been saved in total over the last month. The campaign has resulted in a whopping 80% increase in the number of households switching energy deals compared to the same period last year, with the total savings as a result of switching almost doubling.
The Power to Switch campaign
The Power to Switch campaign launched back in February, and was designed to encourage households to shop around and switch to better deals.
[SPOTLIGHT]The campaign included the launch of the Government website Be An Energy Shopper, which offers help on making sense of your bill, explains how to compare tariffs and pushes users towards Ofgem-accredited price comparison sites, like lovemoney.com, in order to help you find the best deal.
Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Davey said that the huge increase in switching year-on-year showed that people want better deals from their energy suppliers, adding: “Our reforms to the market have driven competition and made that possible.”
These reforms include speeding up the time taken to switch supplier and encouraging the entry of new suppliers. For a great round-up of suppliers you may not have heard of, read Unusual energy tariffs and suppliers: alternatives to the Big Six.
