Sainsbury's offers more Nectar points on fuel but halves in-store rewards

Supermarket is launching its biggest ever points giveaway on fuel, but in-store Nectar rewards will be halved.

Sainsbury’s is launching its “biggest ever points giveaway” on fuel from today (Friday), but in-store Nectar rewards will be halved from Saturday.

For the next month, Sainsbury’s is offering Nectar card holders 10 points per litre of fuel bought at Sainsbury’s forecourts.

However, from tomorrow they’ll only earn one point for every £1 spent in-store and online, as opposed to the two points previously earned for each £1 spent.

Sainsbury’s Bank Credit Card and American Express Nectar Credit Card holders are also in for a surprise as they’ll earn fewer points. Normally they get four points for every pound spent in-store, but when the changes come into effect they’ll only get three points for every £1. Promotional offers on the cards are unaffected.

[SPOTLIGHT]There won’t be any points for being greener, either. Shoppers will no longer collect a Nectar point for every bag they re-use when shopping in-store.

No change to value of points

The actual value of the points will stay the same, so 500 points is still worth £2.50 to spend in-store, with the opportunity to boost them for treats and days out during promotional periods.

The number of points earned with Nectar partners such as eBay, BP and Oxfam will also remain unchanged.

Sainsbury’s has said that instead of more points on everyday spending, there will be more high-value bonus events like the petrol giveaway and Double Up events which run at various points throughout the year.
