New MVNO will offer 12-month contracts and free roaming in 22 countries.
Carphone Warehouse has announced it will launch a new mobile network called iD from May.
iD will operate as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) and will piggyback off Three’s existing network to offer its service.
Its strategy will include ’controlled and capped’ plans, which it claims will be the cheapest on the market, as well as 12-month 4G contracts, which are pretty hard to come by right now.
But its main selling point will be on international roaming.
[SPOTLIGHT]iD customers will get free access to their normal data allowances in 22 countries (20 European and two non-European), which beats even Three’s current line-up of 18 countries (10 European and eight non-European).
At launch the regions for free data roaming will be: Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the US.
Exact details of tariff pricing have yet to be revealed but Carphone Warehouse has given us a taster of what to expect.
One ‘mega offer’ will be on the Samsung A3, which will be available for a limited time on a 12-month 4G plan with 300 minutes, 5,000 texts and 1GB of data for £19.50 a month.
iD deals will be available next month from Carphone Warehouse, Currys and PC World stores as well as online. You can register your interest at www.idmobile.co.uk.
