Average cost of groceries falls by 1% in July.
The cost of the average basket of groceries dropped 1% in July according to the latest Groceries Tracker from MySupermarket.
The price fell to £86.11 in July, down from £86.64 in June. More significantly, it’s down 6% from July last year.
The tracker monitors the cost of 35 of the most commonly-bought grocery products, covering items such as minced beef, ham, apples, bread and pasta.
The biggest price rises
Of the items that MySupermarket tracks the price of, just nine increased in price over the month.

As you can see, broccoli had easily the biggest price rise in July. This is interesting as back in June it topped the table for price rises, dropping more than 17%.
The biggest price falls
More than half of the items MySupermarket tracks saw prices fall in July, which is great news for shoppers. Let’s take a look at which items saw the most significant reductions in price.

How is the basket put together?
Nearly 5,000 products across Asda, Aldi, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose are tracked to put together the Groceries Tracker.
It looks at both brand and own brand products, but does not include finest or luxury ranges. All prices include offers, but not multibuy deals.
Certain products were taken out as they disproportionately inflate prices (things like organic, free range, Fairtrade and gluten free) in order to represent a ‘normal’ weekly shop.
