HSBC IT blip leaves thousands unpaid ahead of Bank Holiday

Thousands of people haven’t been paid ahead of the August Bank Holiday weekend because of an IT bug.

Thousands of people have not been paid today (28th August) due to an IT blip at HSBC.

The bank said there had been an issue with payments from HSBC business account holders. It couldn’t say how many were affected or how long it would take to fix the error.

[SPOTLIGHT]Problems arose from information used by HSBC to process some payments, rather than an issue with the Bacs payments system itself. The latter is used by all UK financial institutions for funds transfers.

HSBC has contacted the Bank of England and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to make them aware of the situation.
