The latest round of cuts, coupled with a Nectar promotion, means some drivers could pay less than a quid at the pumps.
There's been another round of supermarket fuel price cuts, after Morrisons announced it would be cutting the cost of its fuel.
It took 1p off the cost of a litre of petrol and diesel on Tuesday (20th October).
Tesco swiftly followed suit with an identical price cut. Peter Cattell, fuel director for Tesco, said: “We know that the cost of fuel really matters to our customers, especially with the school holidays coming up.”
And Sainsbury's has also take a penny off at its pumps, where you can also currently earn 10 Nectar points, instead of the usual one, on every litre of fuel you buy at its petrol stations. Sainsbury's claims this is worth a 5p-a-litre discount and with unleaded at a low of 104.9p in some parts of the UK, according to fuel comparison site PetrolPrices.com, this could mean you're paying the equivalent of less than £1 a litre with the Nectar points.
At the time of writing, Asda hasn't announced a price cut. In September it announced it was lowering the price cap on its fuel at its petrol stations to 105.7p per litre on unleaded and 107.7p per litre on diesel.
The latest figures from PetrolPrices.com show unleaded petrol at an average of 109.21p per litre across the UK and diesel averaging 110.96p.
Pay less for your fuel
[SPOTLIGHT]There are a host of ways that you can pay less for your fuel, or at least get a little back when you do fill up at the pump.
Firstly, follow the tips in our guide How to find cheaper petrol and diesel.
You should also think about how you pay for your fuel. Santander’s 123 credit card offers 3% cashback at all major petrol stations (capped at £100 of spending a month, so you can earn a maximum of £3), as well as 2% cashback on spending at department stores and 1% cashback at supermarkets, though there is an annual fee of £24 (rising to £36 in January).
And if you buy your fuel at Sainsbury's you can boost your Nectar points still further by paying with the Nectar credit card. Similarly at Tesco you'll boost your Clubcard points with a Clubcard credit card.
