Where to get Christmas dinner cheapest: Aldi and Lidl take on Tesco, Sainsbury's and Waitrose

Updated on 06 November 2015 | 2 Comments

From Aldi and Lidl to Tesco and Sainsbury's, which supermarket offers the best value for your festive shop?

With Asda and Lidl's Christmas adverts already hitting television screens, our thoughts are turning towards Christmas lunch.

But where can you get it cheapest? Last year Aldi came out on top as a one-stop shop for your festive feast, but this year it has been beaten by Lidl! According to our sums, feeding a family of eight can be done for just £23.67, or £2.95 a head, at Lidl.

We’ve looked at an exhaustive Christmas dinner, complete with turkey, all of the trimmings, dessert and even brandy butter.

Here's how each supermarket performed overall:

Christmas is a time for loyalty

[SPOTLIGHT]If you haven’t exchanged your supermarket loyalty points in for a while, now is the time to do it.

If you are a Nectar fan, then you could exchange your points for money off vouchers at Sainsbury's. The more points you have, the money you could save on your shopping. Thankfully there are plenty of ways to really ramp up how many Nectar points you have, whether that's going for one of the Nectar affiliated credit cards, getting insurance from Sainsbury's or travelling with Virgin Trains. For a host of other ways to increase your Nectar balance, check out How to boost your Nectar points.

Tesco shoppers can take advantage of the current Clubcard Boost promotion which is running until 27th December. During this time you can exchange £5 in Clubcard vouchers for a £10 Boost token. You could even put it towards a snazzy set of Christmas lights for your tree.

It’s the perfect time of year to boost your cashback too. You’ll earn more money towards food, parties and gifts just by doing your regular spending. Check out loveMONEY’s credit card centre for some of the best deals on the market right now.
