According to research from Verdict Retail, we’ll spend an estimated £980 million on Valentine’s Day this year, a whopping £15 million increase on last year.

Meals are an easy way to enjoy some time together with some delicious food and top tipple.
Buyagift is selling traditional afternoon tea for two vouchers which are valid across England, Wales and Scotland for just £36.
At Prezzo you can bag a three course meal, an aperitif and a digestif for £24.95, or £14.50 for a two-course lunch.
The Valentine’s set menu at Zizzi is £21.95, complete with three courses and a glass of prosecco. It's available from 12th-14th February. Ask Italian has a similar deal but instead of prosecco your meal comes with a cup of coffee or tea.
Meals at home are also a popular option if you want to enjoy a peaceful meal at home.
For something really lavish, head over to M&S for the Valentine’s Day Dine in for Two for £20. Choose a starter, main course, side, dessert and a bottle of wine or cava and a box of chocolates, all for just £20. The offer is available from 11th-15th February.
Morrisons is doing a Meal Deal for Two for £15 from its Signature range, available from 10th February. If you want to stray outside the set menu it has oysters for 25p each, on sale from 8th-14th February. They’re usually priced at 60p each so it’s quite the bargain.
Lidl is taking some tips from France this Valentine’s, offering a pack of 12 escargots for £1.99 and a selection of French cheeses for £1.99 each. Madeleines, macarons, pork terrine and crepes also feature on its range.
Bubbly
Of course, your special meal wouldn’t quite be the same without a bit of fizz to round it off.
Pick up a bottle of French Champagne Brut, available for £9.99 from Lidl.
Veuve Monsigny Champagne Rose Brut NV is £13.99 from Aldi.
A bottle of Pierre Darcys Champagne Brut NV is a bargain £9 from Asda.
Or for something a bit fruitier, try Belletti Spumante Rose DOC, a light and zingy pink sparkling wine. It’s on offer for £5.49 from Aldi.

Perfume
There’s 50% off fragrances at Boots at the moment. Marc Jacobs Dot Eau de Parfum 50ml is £25, down from £50. Jimmy Choo FLASH Eau de Parfum 100ml and Lancome Miracle Eau de Parfum 30ml are £31 and £21 respectively.
Superdrug is also offering up to 50% off. Try BOSS Bottled Night Eau de Toilette 200ml, which was £80 but is now £40.
The Fragrance Shop is also doing half price fragrances, as well as offering delivery for just 99p. Roberto Cavalli Eau de Parfum 75ml is only £31, down from £62. It comes with a free bag, too. There’s also 15% off gift sets; just use the code GIFT15 at the checkout.
Days out and experiences
Maybe you’d like to try something new for a more memorable day?
A tour of Chiltern Valley winery and brewery for two with tastings is going for just £9 on Virgin Experience Days at the moment. You’ll have to go on a weekday but it does include a personalised experience gift pack, including a voucher and gift card.
Red Letter Days also has a sale of up to 70% off which is worth a look. There’s 47% off a Bannatyne Heavenly Pamper Day for two (now £57) and an amazing 70% off extreme rally driving in Essex (now £99).
The private cinema at May Fair Hotel is offering up showings of ‘When Harry met Sally’ and ‘Brooklyn’ with tempting extras. You can get Moet & Chandon champagne with unlimited sweets and popcorn for £25 each, or for an extra £20 you can get a two course meal on top of it.
For something of an ‘eleventh hour’ arrangement, Addison Lee is offering a £40 CupidCab which promises ‘one part date, one part rescue service’, catering for ‘even the most forgetful Romeos!’

Trips
With Valentine's Day falling on a Sunday this year, it’s the perfect opportunity to take a weekend trip.
British Airways has a load of city breaks flying out on 12th February. Get return flights and two nights in a hotel in Paris from £258 per person. Alternatively you can go to Venice on 13th February and get a similar deal for £499 per person.
If you don’t mind travelling a bit later, Expedia has some top deals to destinations which are a bit further afield. A return flight from London Heathrow to New York JFK and four nights in the Magnuson Convention Center Hotel is available for £523 per person if you fly on Monday 29th February.
As for hotels, Travelodge has cheap rooms available around the UK on 14th February. A room in Cardiff Whitchurch is just £41 for the night.
For something a bit more luxurious, lastminute.com is advertising a Top Secret Hotel in the centre of Manchester with a spa, bar and limousine service. It’s only £80 for Valentine’s night.
