Tesco Direct scraps minimum payment charge on click and collect

Tesco Direct has dropped the minimum payment charge on click and collect purchases... for now.

Tesco Direct has dropped its minimum payment charge for click and collect.

Until now, shoppers were charged £2 for orders under £30.

The supermarket said in February it had to introduce the charge to cover rising costs and was in line with rival supermarkets, which charge similar fees for their click and collect services.

But now it says that it wants to give shoppers more choice and convenience, particularly in the run-up to Christmas, so it’s ditching the charge.

A spokesperson said: “With Halloween quickly approaching and Christmas just around the corner, the next few months are extremely busy for our customers.

“That’s why we’re offering free next day click and collect on all Tesco Direct orders.”

Click and collect is available at 2,500 stores across the UK. The service will be free until the end of this year at least.

What about groceries?

There is still a minimum order charge on Tesco grocery orders, unfortunately. Both click and collect and home delivery have a £4 charge for orders under £40.

Home deliveries have an additional charge depending on when you want your groceries at your door.

If you want to keep costs down, aim for delivery between Tuesday and Thursday.

Slots on these days cost anywhere between £1 and £6 depending on the time of day, how busy they are and how far in advance you book.

Delivery slots for 8-9am on Fridays and Saturdays and 8am-10am Sundays tend to be the priciest, costing up to £7.

Tesco does have a Delivery Saver scheme which can save you a bit though.
