Halifax Clarity Credit Card glitch – are your owed money for missing cashback rewards?

Updated on 24 March 2017 | 0 Comments

Thousands of Halifax Clarity Credit Card customers have been missing out on £5 monthly reward cashback since the end of 2011 – check if you’re owed money.

Halifax is issuing payments to thousands of Clarity Credit Card customers after failing to award them the monthly cashback sums they had rightfully earned.

Until last year, customers with both the Halifax credit card and a Halifax current account could earn £5 cashback each month they managed to spend at least £300 on their credit card.

However, Halifax has discovered that some Clarity customers were not receiving these rewards when they should have been because of a "processing error", with some payments missing from as far back as the end of 2011.

Halifax says around 1.5% of Clarity customers have been impacted by this glitch.

How much could you get?

The amount those affected are owed depends on when they had a Clarity card and a Halifax current account and how many monthly rewards they missed out on, but given how long the error has been left unfixed it’s likely to be a sizeable sum.

Those that still have the Halifax Clarity credit card have reported getting payments worth more than £100, which show up on their statements as 'missing reward' and 'additional interest'.

How to claim your missing cashback

Halifax says it is getting in touch with everyone affected and any payments owed to customers will be credited to their accounts.

If you are no longer a Clarity customer Halifax will write to you to ask how you would like to receive your missing reward payment credit, however, if your details are out of date that might take longer.

If you have or had a Clarity credit card you should check your statements to see if you have missed out on any cashback and get in touch with Halifax if you spot any errors.

Just remember that Halifax no longer offers the Clarity £5 monthly reward. It ended for long-term customers on 30 September 2016, while those who took out the card before 9 August 2016 were paid rewards until the end of last year.

What Halifax says

A Halifax spokesperson told loveMONEY: “We have identified that some of our Clarity card customers have not received the £5 reward earned on their account when qualifying criteria were met.

“We are now in the process of paying affected customers the amounts they are owed and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
