The Fool's Weekend Money Saver

Updated on 16 December 2008 | 0 Comments

In the first of a new weekly feature, we highlight some of the best shopping bargains on offer this weekend.

We're always trying to help you save money at The Fool, so we thought we'd launch a weekly round-up of shopping bargains so you can save cash at the weekend and beyond. And we'll also point up a few "steer clears" where we think the price is just too high!

That's the introduction out of the way, let's crack on with the bargains:

Non-food retail

Stock up on those essentials while the big retailers have their summer sales on. You can currently save up to 75% in the Debenhams Blue Cross Sale (ends 15/7) or up to 50% in the John Lewis and House of Fraser sales. And good old Marks & Spencer is offering up to 50% off selected furniture in its sale.

Check out Argos for its end of catalogue sale -- but you'll have to be quite quick as it ends on 27 July. HMV is offering up to 70% off in its sale and Superdrug is offering off selected skincare.

For baby and maternity items check out Mothercare, Jojo Maman Bebe, Kiddicare Blooming Marvellous, The Early Learning Centre and Mamas and Papas-- they are each currently holding summer sales where you can save up to 50% (and if you shop online at the Early Learning Centre you'll save an extra 10% on sale prices).

Nectar

If you have Nectar points, take advantage of its current promotion -- subscribe to magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Company and Good Housekeeping from Saturday 14 July for one week for half the number of points as normal. And if you're planning to shop online at Currys, the Early Learning Centre, Play.com, Figleaves or Woolworths, consider doing so through Nectar eStores as you will earn triple Nectar points.

Travel

Check out Ryanair's sale -- it's currently offering seats from just £25 inc. taxes.

And you can save up to 45% in the British Airways sale. Lastminute.com has some bargains too, plus it currently has some two for the price of one special offers on spa breaks.

That's it for the first week, but we plan to expand and improve this feature as the weeks go by. If you have any suggestions or you've spotted any bargains out there, let us know on our Money Saving Tips discussion board.
