New data reveals the cars that have fallen sharply in price and now represent a good option for those in the market for a new motor.
The electric Nissan Leaf has been ranked the best-value used car in the UK by online car marketplace Car Gurus.

1. Nissan Leaf (2017-)

While the analysts at CarGurus concede that the Leaf “might not be the most exciting electric car to drive or the most glamorous to own”, they also claim there is “plenty to like”, most notably that it's "extremely easy to drive and live with".
Its practicality also makes it a great choice for families.
Being one of the first mainstream EVs, there is also an abundant supply on the market, helping drive down the price.
While most models don't have the range of newer electric cars, the e+ officially does 239 miles between charges.
2. Volkswagen ID.4 (2021)

The study found that the Volkswagen ID.4 has suffered from high depreciation over the past 12 months.

While average prices are just over £25,000 in the used market, you can bag a bargain for £15,000.

In addition to praising the Kia e Niro as one of the most affordable used cars, CarGurus found the first-generation model is potentially “the best used EV full-stop”.
The study cited its “combination of space, practicality, technology, range and the fact it's great to drive.”
5. Kia Soul (2015-2019)

Average listing price November 2024: £10,611
Percentage reduction: 30.2%
Available as a petrol, diesel or electric crossover, the Kia Soul often receives praise for its style.
According to the findings, “it's a decent car that's affordable to buy and run, and pleasant enough to drive”.
As one of the first EVs in the UK market, the range is more limited than newer models.
Nevertheless, the study found it could be a good choice for second-hand buyers who can charge at home.
6 Volkswagen ID.3 (2020-)

Average listing price November 2024: £18,195
Percentage reduction: 29.9%
The ID.3 is a “thoroughly competent car”, the experts decided.
Despite this, CarGurus did identify “some frustrations with its infotainment system and heating controls”.
Released in 2023, the newer version has resolved some of these problems, but the researchers suggest it could still be better for the price.
7. Hyundai Ioniq 5 (2021-)

While this model’s depreciation isn’t good news for current owners, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a great option in the second-hand market.
Used models now start at under £20,000, offering a more budget-friendly entry point into the EV world.
With falling prices, the vehicle quickly became one of the most sought-after used electric models of 2024.
8. Ford Mustang Mach-E (2021-)

Percentage reduction: 29.3%
With a reputation for strong performance and sharp handling, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is an enjoyable drive, according to CarGurus.
While the researchers found it’s not a Mustang in the “traditional sense”, the model won praise for its practicality, generous boot space and low running costs.

The Citroen C4 wins points for its petrol, diesel and fully electric powertrains, which convert energy into motion.
The electric version has an official range of 217 miles, although real-world figures vary from 110 to 200 miles.
While the researchers say: “it may be a middle-of-the-road option in some respects”, they also praise its “quirky design” and “ample practicality”.
10. MG4 (2022-)

Percentage reduction: 28.9%
The MG4 has reshaped consumer views of the brand by offering an affordable long-range electric model, CarGurus revealed.
According to the findings, it offers practicality, modern tech and an enjoyable driving experience.
The high-performance X-Power version could be an option for those seeking extra power.
However, CarGurus rates the entry-level SE Standard Range as the best value.
The experts were especially taken by its blend of range, affordability and driving experience.
