Sainsbury's tops 2015 Easter egg taste test
The supermarket's egg was tastiest and best value for money!
Sainsbury's has taken the crown in this year's loveMONEY Easter egg taste test.
Our tasters put ten basic eggs through their paces to see which offered a great taste and wouldn't break the bank.
Let's take a look at how each egg fared. All scores are given out of a maximum of 10.

The Sainsbury’s Milk Chocolate Egg is clearly the best on the list, as it is not only joint first but costs just 71p per 100g. While it drew with the Yorkie egg on quality, they don’t offer anywhere near the same level of value.
The Sainsbury’s egg was praised for its “velvety” texture, “delicate” flavour and “classic creamy taste,” and you might do well with this one, though it’s worth noting that the Yorkie egg does come with three bars of chocolate as well as an egg.
Also performing well was the Aldi Moser Roth Drizzled Pink Egg which came third for taste, and costs £1.50 per 100g, much cheaper than many eggs on the list.
At the other end of the scale, Tesco's egg is both cheap and nasty, while the Mars & Friends egg is clearly one to avoid. Our tasters described it as "shockingly bad", with one questioning whether it was really made of chocolate at all.
The Hotel Chocolat and Lindt eggs, despite their luxury labels, failed to perform very well and are rather expensive. While the Lindt egg is a more reasonable, yet pricey, £3.11, the Hotel Chocolat ‘Scrambled Egg’ costs £10 per 100g while offering lacklustre chocolate described as “cheap.”
None of these eggs scored incredibly well though. Our sister site Lovefood has run the rule over some more exotic eggs, so to see if they fared better, check out Taste test: unsual Easter eggs for 2015.

Get your eggs cheaper
If you are on the hunt for a cheap egg, be sure to read Where to find cheap Easter eggs.
But remember that chocolate eggs are sold off after Easter as fast as possible by retailers, who have no desire to stock them anymore and want their floor and shelf space back to sell other goods.
So it’s very possible to pick up an egg you really fancy even cheaper after Easter. There’s no guarantee you’ll get the one you want, but if you really just want a fix of chocolate and aren’t too concerned about which egg(s) you end up with, a trip to the shops just after Easter Sunday could save you even more.
