Fiona Stapley, Editor of The Good Pub Guide, pointed out that as pubs in the South and South East have the largest overheads, this pushes the price of a pint up too.
She added: "Ultimately breweries will charge what they want, and more importantly, what they can get away with! Pub-goers in the South East and Home Counties will be prepared to pay more for beer than the North of England, or the South West, where salaries and wages are lower.”
Track down a cheaper pint
If you're fed up paying too much for a pint, try somewhere that brews its own beer. It’ll be cheaper compared to the average local price at around 48p less per pint.
But if you go for quality above all else, the Good Pub Guide also gives its take on the best British pubs. It’s worth mentioning that pubs featured in the guide have been charged to appear in there.
