The best places to live and work in the UK

New study reveals the best - and worst - places to live and work in the UK.

Reading and Bracknell have been named the best places to live and work in the UK.

The Good Growth for Cities Index looks at 39 cities across the UK and measures their performance against 10 categories defined by the public and businesses as “key to economic success and personal and family wellbeing”.

This covers: jobs, health, income and skills, work-life balance, house-affordability, commuting times, income equality and pollution.

The effects of economic recovery mean that life in all the cities looked at has improved since 2014.

“Improved employment figures and some growth in real household disposable income were the main drivers of improvement in our 2015 index. However, in some cities this has impacted on housing affordability, commuting times and work-life balance, offsetting part of the gains from economic recover in our overall good growth index,” said John Hawksworth, chief economist at PwC who commissioned the research.
