Tesco rolls out same-day delivery service across the UK
Tesco will be rolling out it's same-day delivery service nationwide from August, and you might be able to get it for free. Here's what you need to know.
Tesco has announced that it will be rolling out same-day food delivery across 99% of UK towns and cities.
From next month the service, which is currently only offered to shoppers in London and the south east, will be available across the country.
You’ll be able to get your shopping delivered to your door within 12 hours.
Known as the ‘flexi-saver home delivery’, the service will be running across 300 stores, ranging from the Shetland Islands to Cornwall.
It follows a three-year trial of the service which launched in 2014 in London and the south east.
Flexi-saver home delivery
With the new service, customers can order by 1pm to have their shopping delivered from 7pm onwards, and there’s no cap on the amount of items you order at once.
Deliveries cost between £3 and £8 a slot, but you can get the service for free if you’re a new customer. Tesco is offering a one-month free trial when you sign up to its online delivery service, Delivery Saver. After the 30 days is over, you can cancel or renew at £8 a month of £7 a month for six months.
Of course, there is a catch: shoppers living outside London won’t be able to order on Sundays.
Delivery within an hour
The news comes less than a month after the supermarket giant launched its Tesco Now app, which offers grocery deliveries within an hour of ordering.
To take advantage of this service there are some caveats involved. You can only order up to 20 items, delivery costs a staggering £7.99 regardless of what you choose and the service is only available in central London – at least for now.
If you are willing to wait an extra hour, the delivery cost falls to £5.99.
On the plus side, you have your pick of 1,000 products there’s no minimum order charge and you'll get shopping delivered to your door within the hour.
You can get a pretty decent shop as well, as the app offers everything from fresh veg, meat and dairy to household products and pet, baby, health and beauty products.
Customers can track their order through the app, receiving live updates on their order. The service is available from 8am to 11pm on weekdays and 9am until 11pm on weekends.
Adrian Letts, online managing director at Tesco, said: “Shoppers’ needs are changing and we want to offer a range of services that allow them to shop with us in a way that suits their needs. We look forward to hearing what they think of the service.”
The app can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play.
